What is the science behind GenoPalate?

We analyze over 100 genetic markers that influence how your body metabolizes different nutrients. We then combine your genetic results with research on nutritional genomics to determine your recommended intake level for carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. We base your recommendations on evidence-based research correlating your genetic variants with nutrition that’s shown positive health outcomes. We also provide insights on your sensitivity to lactose and gluten, and your metabolic rate of caffeine and alcohol.

How do you make the connection between my genes and nutrition recommendations?

GenoPalate uses curated evidence-based scientific literature to identify and validate gene-nutrition impactful relationships. GenoPalate further evaluates and scores the strength of these relationships in relation to metabolic health outcomes and uses our proprietary algorithm to link your DNA blueprint to nutrition recommendations that have been shown to benefit your specific genotype. We then match your nutrition recommendations with 100+ foods, allowing you to start eating for your genes!

What is a genotype?

You have two copies of each gene, one from your mom and one from your dad. Your genotype refers to the two nucleotides (A, C, G, or T) found at the same location on each copy of a gene.

Can this report detect my food allergies?

GenoPalate does not provide recommendations for food allergies as your DNA alone is not able to diagnose your food allergies (nut, soy, shellfish, etc.). Allergic reactions begin in your immune system and can be further influenced by numerous factors, including your environment.

I struggle with my weight, can GenoPalate help with this?

Because weight is influenced by a number of factors, GenoPalate cannot guarantee weight loss. We provide you with nutrition and food recommendations, based on your genes, to help you eat better for a healthier life.

I’m a diabetic, is this considered in my results?

While your GenoPalate recommendations are personalized based on many factors including your genes, age, gender, and food preferences, they are currently not influenced by current health conditions or modifications. While GenoPalate provides sound evidence-based foundational recommendations, other elements may need to be taken into account, such as any prescribed dietary plan, medications, supplements, and so forth. GenoPalate does not take the place of a medical exam or professional advice. We encourage you to incorporate GenoPalate’s product along with recommendations from your healthcare team.

Research

Are you doing research at GenoPalate?

We are! Research is a new program that we have started at GenoPalate and we urge you to participate in it. This study may not benefit you directly, but your participation will add value in enhancing the knowledge and understanding between genetics, health and wellness not only for you, but also for others.

What is the purpose of this study?

Our goal is to create a research environment of studying personalized nutrition at GenoPalate. We plan to create a quality knowledge base for fostering and supporting scientific research, as well as innovative solutions to health and nutrition.

What will I be asked to do if I participate?

When you give us your consent for participation, we will use your de-identified genomic data, along with the information you share with us through questionnaires and surveys, in our research.

How do I give my consent?

Please give your consent by checking the box “I have read this document and I give consent” provided at the end of the consent form in your GenoPalate account.

What is the cost that you could incur? Who is sponsoring this research?

You will not be charged for participating in this program. GenoPalate will cover the cost of this research.

What will happen to my sample and/or data?

We will keep your data secured in our database for 10 years from the date the data is collected from you. At the end of this time period, your sample will be discarded and your data will be deleted from our research database.

How is my data protected and kept private?

In order to protect your data, the files of the genotyped data that are de-identified are stored in a secure server at GenoPalate, which can only be accessed by GenoPalate researchers. This data will not be sold.

Will the GenoPalate research team contact me in the future?

We may contact you if we feel that we need additional details regarding your family, your lifestyle, and your behavioral choices.

I am not comfortable answering some of the questions related to the research?

You can skip those questions, please only answer the questions you are comfortable with.

Do I have any alternatives to participating in this study?

This study is for research purposes only to help us further explore how certain genetic variants impact overall health. You may opt-out of this study at any time. There are no negative consequences for not participating or opting out of this study

I opted for yes/give my consent now I want to change my mind, what do I do?

Please log into “my account” then click on “change your consent” to opt out.

Whom should I contact if I have any questions?

If you have any questions, please contact us at research@genopalate.com.

Biobanking

What is biobanking?

A biobank is a repository where DNA samples are stored and then used later for analyses using advanced technologies for research purposes.

Do I have to participate in biobanking?

Individuals who purchase the GenoPalate kit have the option to participate in biobanking their sample, but it is not mandatory.

What will I be asked to do if I enroll in biobanking?

As of now, you do not have to do anything. We have the isolated DNA from the sample you have provided; with your consent, these samples will be stored and can be used for analyses in the future.

Will I be charged for enrolling in biobanking with the GenoPalate laboratory?

No, biobanking your DNA sample is a free service offered to you by GenoPalate.

Where will you store my samples?

We will securely store your DNA sample at our Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-certified and College of American Pathology (CAP)-accredited laboratory.

Do I have the option to withdraw from biobanking?

Yes, you can withdraw from biobanking your sample with the GenoPalate laboratory. There are no negative consequences for opting out.

I opted for yes/give my consent now I want to change my mind, what do I do?

Please log into “my account” then click on “change your consent” to opt out of biobanking.

I still have questions, what should I do?

Please email us at research@genopalate.com and we will get back to you soon.

What parameters have been put in place to protect and secure my DNA data?

Your DNA is completely de-identified and encrypted in our database. This means that no outside affiliate can get to your DNA and that your personal information has been unattached from your DNA.

What happens to my DNA after my report is generated?

Your genetic material is carefully disposed of after it has been used to generate your report. Our lab handles this in compliance with CLIA standards.

What can I do to keep my account safe?

We ask you to be responsible for safeguarding your password and other authentication information you use with GenoPalate.

Is the existing genetic data upload secure?

Our upload is SSL encrypted, keeping your file private and integral.

How do you use my existing genetic data?

Your DNA is analyzed on what is called a microarray. These arrays measure hundreds of thousands of genetic variants. Companies then analyze the variants specific to the product that they are offering. At GenoPalate, we analyze the variants that relate to nutrition.
