How we calculate our nutrition recommendations

STEP 1

Gather the research

At GenoPalate, we study many different genes related to nutrition. First, we use research that connects how certain genes relate to what we eat. These studies show how people with specific genetic variants can change things like their weight or cholesterol levels by adjusting what they eat. 

We only use the highest-quality, peer-reviewed research studies to inform our recommendations so we can give you the most accurate recommendations possible.

STEP 2

Analyze your genes

Next, we compare your genes to these studies to see what makes you different. We figure out what nutrients you might need more or less of.

For example, one study found that people with a certain genetic variant decreased their waist size when following a high-protein diet. So, when we get your DNA data, we check if you have the same genetic variants as the people who saw this effect in the study. If you do, we suggest you eat more protein.

We look at over 150 genetic variants like this to create your special diet suggestions based on your genes.

STEP 3

Scoring your foods

Then, we match your nutrition recommendations with the nutrient content of the foods in our extensive database. This helps us score a list of foods based on your unique nutrition needs.

We consider all your genetic-based diet suggestions for carbs, fat, protein, vitamins, and minerals when scoring your foods.

For example, if your genes say you need moderate potassium, low sodium, and lots of fiber, foods with these qualities will be scored higher on your list.

Even small changes in what we eat can make a big difference in how we feel and our overall health.
